Electricity and service rates hike

This is how it works

As from 1 July, the City of Tshwane (CoT) introduced new municipal tariffs and residents would therefore find their monthly bills for July higher than the previous months’ accounts.

Rates will increase as following: Property rates -12%; Electricity – 12 %; Water – 10%; Waste water management – 12%; Waste Management – 25%

Also bear in mind that Inclining Block Tariffs (IBT) were introduced by the National Energy Regulator of South Africa (NERSA). This means that the more you consume, the higher the average price. The objective of this tariff is to provide protection for lower consuming customers against high price increases.

The tariff structure is divided into four consumption blocks and each successive block has a higher price per kWh of energy. The amount payable is the sum of the consumption per block multiplied by the energy rate/price per unit for each block.

Therefore a consumer’s first 350kwh will be at the existing rate (no increase). The increase in price starts once a consumer has used up or purchased the first 350 kWh for the month, then he/she will start paying more.

• Laat installeer ‘n tydskakelaar (timer) in jou woning se geyser(s).  Dit is nie duur nie, maar kan

werklik ‘n verskil op jou kragrekening maak.

• Stel die temperatuur op ‘n laer stelling vir warm water
• Moenie net kragproppe by die muurprop uittrek nie, sit ook die skakelaar af, daar is steeds

kragtoevoer na die muurprop as die die skakelaar nie afgeskakel is nie.

• Toebehore wat die meeste krag gebruik, is dié wat elemente bevat. Dit sluit nie net oonde, ketels,

verwarmers, broodroosters en mikrogolfoonde in nie, maar selfs haardroërs.  Gebruik eerder

komberse in stede van elektriese komberse en indien moontlik, eerder ‘n kaggel as ‘n verwarmer.

• Tuimeldroeers en skottelgoedwassers gebruik baie krag, waar moontlik maak klere winddroog en

was net vol vragte skottelgoed en ook wasgoed (klere).

• Indien jy wel jou woning verkoel of verwarm, sorg dat alle deure en vensters toe is, sodat minder

krag gebruik word.

• Gebruik energiebesparende of LED-gloeilampe.
• Waar moontlik, kan solarkrag op die langtermyn koste bespaar.
